Susan Kudrick is born on Tuesday, June 4, 1912. She is born in the village of Cranberry and baptized five days later in St. Mary's Greek Catholic Church in Hazleton, PA.. Susan's god parents in attendance at the church baptism are family friends Andreas Manyko from Hazleton and Susanna Brazsina from Cranberry. Alex, Anna and her godparents are the only persons in attendance at Susan's baptism. The priest who officiates at Susan's baptism is Rev. Victor Suba.
Susan is the ninth and last child born to Anna and the sixth child born to both Alex and Anna Kudrick. She joins 22-year-old Anna Scšur II, 20-year old Mary Bartko, 18-year-old John Bartko, 13-year-old Michael Kudrick, 11-year-old Helen Kudrick, 9-year-old Elizabeth Kudrick, 6-year-old Joseph Kudrick and 4-year-old Anna in the crowed but loving family. Anna Scšur II is recently married (see Anna Scšur II), Mary Bartko is working in a local shirt factory while John Bartko and Michael Kudrick are working at the Cranberry Colliery along with their father, Alex Kudrick. Alex is 40-years-old and Anna is 44 years-old at the time of Susan's birth.
Anna Mudry, another Anna joins the family, is born to John Mudry and Anna Scšur II. Young Anna is the second grandchild for Baba and Zeddo Kudrick and a niece to Susan Kudrick. Click here for the Mudry Family..

The only known picture of Susan Kudrick, taken in 1919 when she is seven-years-old and caught eating an apple, is shown above. Unfortunately, Susan does not live beyond her eleventh year. News items during the year of Susan's birth are: The 12-story Markle Bank Building on West Broad Street is completed and includes a private restaurant on the top floor known as the Hazleton Club.
Hazleton City Hall built at a cost of $119,000 on the site of a former cemetery is dedicated.
Fire destroys the opulent Palace Theater at Wyoming and Green streets less than three years after it opened.
John Markle, son of a local coal baron, donates the Hazleton Public Library at Church and Green streets to the city of Hazleton. He should have done more!
The Cranberry Mines' buildings are made fireproof by substituting concrete and steel for wood. Alex is comfortable with the improvements since they protect his employer and therefore protect his employment.
The Slovensky Obcan (The Slovak Citizen) weekly newspaper is started on S. Wyoming Street in Hazleton. It brings news to Alex and Anna and lasts until 1946.
Local dignitaries entertain President Duplan of the Duplan Silk Mill when he travels from France to Hazleton to inspect his plant on East Diamond Avenue.
The Hazleton Plain Speaker reports that the Titanic struck an iceberg during the night on her maiden voyage. New baseball parks opening include Fenway Park in Boston, Crosley Field in Cincinnati and Tiger Stadium in Detroit.
The Army football team from West Point features a halfback by the name of Dwight David Eisenhower. A skating house is erected at Hazle Park. The crowds continue as John Phillip Sousa, known around the world for his stirring marches, plays both afternoon and evening concerts to overflow crowds of 10,000 march lovers. A record is set when 9.1 inches of rain fall in March.
Winter brings a decidedly bitter cold spell which fills the local ice houses with an excellent quality of ice. Consumers hope that the ice supply will eliminate the high-price of ice which was experienced last year.
Electricity is spread over the area by the 25,000 horsepower Harwood Electric Power Company. The company distributes its service over power lines constructed within a 50 mile radius of the electric plant.

Prior to Susan's birth, the 1911 news items include: For those in the Kudrick family that are out late at night, a single arc light "lights the way" as they travel the dark road between Cranberry and West Hazleton.
Helen Kudrick's future husband, Andrew McDeshen age 17, lives and works in the Allentown, PA. area.
The Kudrick Family is grief stricken when Annie Lazar, cousin to the Kudrick children, and the first Lazar child passes away at the age of three in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Unable to take off from his work at the mines, Alex Kudrick cannot make the long trip to be with his sister during the loss of her first child.
Recreational interests of the day include Carlisle-type football where a gifted ballplayer named Jim Thorpe leads his team to an outstanding 11-1 season.
Baseball introduces doubleheaders and Sunday baseball to promote improved interest in their product. They make friends among the sports public when they introduce a promotional device called the "Knot Hole Gang" wherein free tickets are provided to youngsters. Conversely, baseball management appears "stingy" when it declares that keeping foul balls during a baseball game is stealing.
Occasionally, the Kudrick family travels by train to Glen Onoko near Mauch Chunk (Jim Thorpe). Before they could make additional excursions to this beautiful area, sparks from a passing train ignite a fire and the Glen Onoko Hotel burns to the ground. It was never rebuilt.
The Leader Store is founded at Broad and Laurel streets and operates until 1976. The Coney Island Restaurant opens for business in 1911.
